How can I find the relationship between beats per minute and my running pace?
January 23rd, 2010 | by admin |I want to make sure that I have the correct cadence on my ipod to manage my running pace. I run an 8 min mile and I want to know how many beats per minute in music that equates to. How do I find that?
Oh man, you can’t find out the bpm for a song from that info. However many steps you take in a minute while running would give you a good bpm. It’s probably going to end up being between 100 and 160 steps depending on how long your legs are and how wide your strides are.

easy! measure how many steps you take past a certain point, then time it to bpms. for instance, find a landmark (tree, marker, anything) then time how long it takes you to get to another marker.
correlate that with the amount of time, and voila, = bpms.

I love this question, haha. 8 minutes is moderately fast if you’re running say, 3 miles. I would go with tunes in the 120-160 bpm range.

count the number of steps you take in 60 seconds.
then look at music that is that or twice that etc.
note the difference speeds you run through out your routine and make a mix that works it that way.
you can buy digital metronomes that have tap frequencies that you can use also. like this one.
